Dora’s Dream is a 501 (c) (3) with a mission to prevent and reverse childhood obesity and related conditions in minority communities through food, fitness, family, and faith. The nonprofit started with a pilot program, funded by a $5,000 grant from the Syracuse Road Warriors that is being managed by the SUNY Foundation. In a true community effort, it brings together a supermarket, Wegmans; a restaurant, Gentiles Bella Cigna; and a Pentecostal church, Open Arm’s Ministries.

The program is designed to engage minority religious communities in a health-focused program that is tied to sermons, supported by science, and implemented through educational modules including food preparation, cooking demonstrations, and behavioral and nutritional teaching. There will also be movement-based activities that are family based including games, dances, walks, and more.

You can make a donation to Dora’s Dream via check. Make your check payable to the Upstate Foundation, and note fund number 42957 in the memo line.
